fockewolf reviews
Noize Foundation - March 1998

For those of you who remember And Christ Wept, this is guitarist/programmer Robert Wilhelm's new band. With his new partner, Severina, Fockewolf creates a remarkable good electro-industrial sound, far surpassing that of Wilhelms' previous endeavors. Opening with "Visionary for Nothing", Fockewolf blend rich synth textures with analog sounding bass lines. Wilhelm's vocals on this track are standar industrial fare, yelled and distorted. Don't let that get taken the wrong way, this is a very strong track and sets the tone for a great demo tape. "Faultless" comes in immediately following, witha synth-drum sound, and Severena's unique vocal sound. Her vocals really set Fockewolf apart from the rest of the Northwest Industrial sound; distinctive, subtle, sporadic, and eerily charming, Severina is up there with Beth Gibbons of Portishead. "A Doctorine Against Flesh" is the next track on this six song demo. This track can also be found on Doppler Effect's Resurgence compilation.
"Submit-Submissive" starts off side two witha slightly slower, more rhythmic sound, layered in laughing samples and breathy synths, Wilhelm's vocals come across as almost an afterthought. The music on this track is great, but the vocal track needs a little refining. "Drought" comes in slow also, with Severina lightly preaching and slowly turning it into a soft and creepy song. She almost makes me think of her as the anti-Jordan Corban (Ovivie, Siren). The distorted samples, high end synths, blended with Severina's mid range, to occasionally low register vocals make this a sonicly interesting song. "I am God" finishes off this cassette at a little faster tempo than the rest of this side of the cassette, but Severina's vocals tie it all together. Wilhelm's programing utilizes some great samples and sound effects on this track, pulling you away from the synth sound, then suddenly giving it all back while Severina speaks right to you.
The combined sound of Wilhelm's programming and Severina's vocals have a great potential for making Fockewolf one of the next top bands in the national scene. Keep your eye on them, and if you ever get a chance to get your hands on any of their songs, or see them play live, definately do it!

CD Review - Resurgence - Doppler Effect - 1998

...Speaking of excellent production, Seattle's Fockewolf's "A Doctrine Against Flesh" is a rousing abridged version of the track which appears on their well-executed demo CD. The duo of R Wilhelm and vocalist Severina evoke textures of "Dusk and Desire" -era Moev, with a fresh, modern feel to it. Severina's icy, captivating vocals provide a nice complement to Wilhelm's steady and progressive electronic rhythms and sampled textures. Fockewolf is going to be a band to watch in the immediate future....as in NOW!!!

CD Review - Circuit Noir - UEF Records - 1998

Track 6: "I Am God" by Fockewolf (Seattle WA). I have already heard this track from their fine demo-tape called "Dominus Et Deus". That was an impressive tape, and this track is my favorite song from that tape. I sure hope this band has caught the attention of some labels; at least, they deserve to be on the next Diva X Machina comp. This is the perfect mixture of goth and hard-edged dark electro. This song should become a staple at goth clubs with it's infectious dark melody and moving spiritual lyrics. This is a band to watch for. FYI, the other half of this male/female duo is R Wilhelm of And Christ Wept.

Dachar Review - 1998

Fockewolf is a new cold, aggressive band from the great Northwest. On their two track demo cassette, Fockewolf deliver nightmarish beats, hostile sequences, and angry samples. "Visionary For Nothing" has all three of these features as well as belligerent vocals. "Submit-Submissive" takes the cold sound and amplifies it with the use of icy sequences, crisp beats, and twisted, whispered vocals. Being that this is only a two track sampler of the Fockewolf sound, I really can't pinpoint the influences or even begin to wonder what an albums worth of material may sound like.

Godsend Magazine - 1998

Fockewolf - Dominus Et Deus - From the ashes of And Christ Wept comes this new group with a similar bleak outlook, though the sound comes across a bit less one-dimentionally. The addition of vocalist Severina adds an interesting balance, with her stong gothic-styled vocals. The potential is there!

Octavia's Demo Alcove - 1998

6 Electro-goth songs with both male and female vocals: Out of the ashes of And Christ Wept, comes this stunning debut by R Wilhelm and Severina. With lots of variety and the sexy vocals of Severina you'd be a fool not to get your hands on this!
